ANNUAL AUTUMN FESTIVAL AT HOLY SPIRIT RETREAT CENTER

Holy Spirit Retreat Center presents its annual Autumn Festival Saturday and Sunday, October 18 and 19, 2014, from 11am to 5pm. This family festival offers arts, crafts, entertainment, food, children’s activities and art demonstrations. New this year is a special art walk featuring the artistic works of local high school students. The Autumn Festival takes place at the Center’s beautiful campus in both their lush outdoor area and within their lovely building at 4316 Lanai Road, Encino, CA 91436. Admission tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased at the festival. Children 12 years and under are free. Dreams Above the River at Carter Sexton

Hello all.  I have two of my most recent images in THE URBAN ART SHOW at Carter Sexton Art Materials / Gallery which opened last Friday evening, July 11, 2014.  Carter Sexton is located at:  5308 Laurel Canyon Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91607. My two pieces are titled SEPTEMBER and OCTOBER, and are from my minimalist/maximalist urban series, DREAMS ABOVE THE RIVER.  They are each 14” x 18” and are mixed media consisting of digital archival printing, acrylic paints, gels, signed on the back.  One image in each of these pieces (there eventually will be a total of twelve, named for the months of the year) consists of a cityscape of downtown Los Angeles, and was photographed by the brilliant artist, designer, photographer and friend Jayme Odgers.  Thank you, Jayme, for allowing me to use this image as the foundation of the series.

Subject matter of DREAMS ABOVE THE RIVER is in homage to L.A,, the city I grew up in, from the age of five, with my parents and my brother Ray, and will include:  nature, freedom of choice, love, compassion, war, health, art, money, spiritual awareness, anger, meditation, courage, relationships, prayer, fear, happiness, wisdom, peace, communication, oppression, humor, sex and balance.  DREAMS ABOVE THE RIVER is descriptive of life on this planet and beyond.

Surfer

This image, I will call Surfer for the moment, will be one of twelve images from my new series, Dreams Above the River.  However, eventually it will be titled one of the twelve months of the year, which one I do not know at this present moment, and not Surfer.  This series encompasses issues from war to love and everything in between.

Peace, Love & Understanding Exhibit

It was wonderful being at The Whole 9 Gallery, Culver City, last night, seeing the art of 165 artists selected from over 500, grateful my piece was one.  Each piece selected was digitally made into a 12″x12″ image, forming a beautiful mural – each image hanging side to side.  Last night’s event was the return journey  back to the Los Angeles area after the mural had traveled to galleries across the US, ending in New York.  The Whole 9 does wonderful, compassionate work throughout the world.

Review of Autumn Festival of Art at Holy Spirit Retreat Center

Last weekend, October 19^th and 20^th the Autumn Festival of Art took place, a yearly event that I participate in at The Holy Spirit Retreat Center in Encino. CA.  The weather was beautiful and the ten acres of woodsy land, trees, paths, a pond, is a physical and spiritual surprise for anyone who has never been there.  This place is truly magic

Many artists and crafts people partake of the festival.  One particular thing I want to single out was the Native American Flute playing by the flute maker Jon Sherman of the San Diego area.  Besides art there was singing, dancing, wine tasting and wonderful food.

I’m happy to report that I sold many items such as my angel jewelry, cards, prints and all our angel books (with writing partner and compiler, Angela Taylor), Angels of Protection / True Angel Stories in the Modern Age.

A portion of this money will benefit the wonderful Sisters of Social Service at the Holy Spirit Retreat Center.

 

 

 

Flight to Might

On Friday, October 4th, I gave an oral presentation, titled From Flight to Might / My Experiences and Recovery from Panic Attacks, Depression and Insomnia, at the Eton Mobile Home Park Clubhouse in Canoga Park, CA.

Arranged by my friends, Nancy Sanford and Janice Bordeaux, this talk followed my journey though over thirty years of the anxiety issues described above.  I am passionately devoted to this project in the hope that others will resonate with the information and be inspired to seek the help they may need.

Peace and Harmony Weekend

Great day serving and enjoying the PEACE AND HARMONY WEEKEND at the SRF Hollywood Temple along with good friend Greg Spalenka and Myriam Robeniol.Saw a lot of friends. Ate great Indian food and listened to the young devotees sharing their talents.
